RIP KIT test and installation.

Let me start this by saying that this thread is not taking sides on any of the drama from a earlier thread. You ( no names mentioned) are both valuable members here with a wealth of knowledge and I hold you in high regards as business owners and my friends . Matt from KMW.sent 330 dan a rip kit to install on his 08 ridgeback and all that we will be talking about is what our experience is with this particular kit sent out for Dans bike?Whether it's good or bad , the agreement was that's what we will be posting about. We insisted that we would pay for the kit so no favoritism would be expected.
Matt sent it out Thursday and I had it in my hands Friday. It was installed today in about 4 hours and lots of pictures were taken but I won't be able to post till later. Bike started up with no issues and was taken on a short test ride and all checked out ok. Dan maybe will post his comments here tomarrow. We will be able to give this lots of testing time in front of many big dog members from all over the country this week during BBBBQ ,so good or bad , it's gonna come out.

With all due respect and I do respect you Dave, we will hear about installing the RIP kit and how easy or hard it was to install. The one thing we won't hear is how it holds up to the rain, heat and vibration that will occur in the next year and will it wind up leaving you on the side of the road down the road. So it might be a great kit easy to install but will it last? Maybe in 12 months and 12,000 miles you can post a follow up.

I must have a fucking good one because even not the hard pressure water has done any bad to it .......

and the electrics have been tempered big time to be able to be EU Legal......

One think to consider though... I did all Preventive Maintenance possible.... like dielectric grease, heat shrink, anti-vibration cushion, bla bla bla... so far so good.... Fingers Crossed :up:

Dans bike had already been DOA with his original EHC and he's been traveling the country with a borrowed one that was starting to act up also. He was going to have to do a fix this winter anyway so thought now would be a good time to test it out .

Thanks for taking the time to do the testing. I'm still holding on to mine as a spare. It was bought as soon as it hit the forum. I have been thinking about getting up with Curtis to check the pin placement just in case I need it and have to install sooner than later. Thanks again.

Yeah, I did read about it here in the Forum.... home made piece of material to keep lower vibrations on the two EHC bolts.... like "Silentblocks" :2thumbs:

This is a clean install on Tapios bike by Matt, his bike runs very well with this kit.

Unfortunately with dans kit for his bike we had a slight step backwards. He discovered that the speedo and the left rear lights weren't working. Jason stepped up to the plate and helped diagnose that the two ground wires weren't hooked up properly in the rip harness. Accidents happen and this was a easy fix by Dan and everything is now working properly.

Ya it's clean but Tapios bike had a setback today also. All day yesterday and last night tapio was following me and he was complaining that the idiot lights were not working since leaving Wichita. We'll today we were informed of no lights on the back of his bike at all so we assume that his entire trip has been without tail light and idiot lights. Putting it on lift in morn and 330 dan is coming over to help dissect the RIP kit . We'll have more news tomorrow. So far two issues .

It appears that after getting the wires that were in the wrong place within the rip kit lined out that it has survived a week of Bikes Blues and BBQ and still running. When 330 dan sends me the pics of the install ill post them up and Hopefully he will jump in and add his thoughts.

Tapios bike turned out to be installation error on kmw rather than trouble within the rip kit itself. We rewired and reroute the wires that were installed in the wrong place and all is working correctly now .
Tapios was some upset and he has posted his own thoughts in a separate post on the 03 chopper turn signals. I was more upset at the thought of a accident to Tapios in his 300 mile ride with out tail lights before we were able to fix them correctly and some of this mileage was after dark..

My thoughts are for kmw to build a test bench for these kits so every kit can be checked the same way and avoid the misplaced pins and provide a clearer set of instructions for the install . Also a set of schematics of the kit would be very beneficial .

With my experience only on the wire plus and rip kit, I'd prob go with the rip kit myself if I had it to do over again. On my wire plus unit years ago , i had two completely different sets of instructions and I had extra wires with colors that didn't match anyone's instruction. I'd say it's just a little easier to do a plug and play than cut all those wires with the wire plus.. Just comparing apple to Apple .

The value that KMW is adding is making the module plug and play. (Pre wiring the thunderheart). They need to tighten up and get this right or you mine as well save $400 and buy the TH and wire it yourself.

David you would think they would bench test the RIP kits before they send them off. They had to see Tapio drive off without taillights.

I just sent Matt at KMW an e-mail asking if he thought it prudent to send mine back for testing before I install it. I bought mine as soon as they offered them for sale on here. I would like to install my Rip Kit as soon as possible, but don't want to have a problem with no way to trouble shoot it.
