I have a 2004 Ridgeback and had it on the lift yesterday doing some detailing. Anyway I noticed the tail light was loose, so I tried to tighten it. It wouldn't tighten. After removing it I found a crack in the housing or "bucket". Whenever I tried tightening it the crack just flexed and wouldn't let it.

Anyway, does anyone have a tail light housing they my want to get rid of?

I have a houseing sitting here but it has a very small nik/dig in the chrome on the side that shows. If you are interested in can try to get a pic for you. Its free if you want it. Also you can purchase a new one with the lens for only like 18 bucks. At least I was able to from the local dealer

JoshT,

Thanks for the reply. I didn't realize they were so cheap. I thought this item had to be about $100. I'll give the local dealer a call and ask. If I need it I'll get back to you.

I looked at your Bike Pics, nice Ridgeback! I also see that you are in Streetsboro, I was born and raised in Cleveland, OH. Go Browns, Cavs, Indians!

I will call my local dealer here and find out how much they want for the light. If it's too rich I may be calling you for the one you have. I may have something to trade, I noticed you have a bare exhaust bracket since you removed the stock 2-1 pipe. I made a billet aluminum peice for mine. Check out my pics and you may be able to see it. :2thumbs:

I spoke to them today and they are ordering me a new housing. I was surprised, it was only $15. I took the lens off but I'm not sure how the LED comes out without breaking it. Any ideas?

There is a notch in one side of the LED board - the gasket around the board can hide it. Find the notch and a pick or small screwdriver will pry it out.

yeah it just presses into the houseing... Nothing holding it in other then that little rubber boot.. Also Im not sure about yours but I know i had to cut my wires and reconnect mine inside the housing if you have enuff wire. GL

DON'T DO THAT! They will push out. Search for sissy bar install on this site and it has directions to get them apart. Paperclip and some patience...the clip has the wires held in with little metal prongs.

Chimes, if you cut, you will need new pins to crimp onto the ends of your wire harness.

What I do is use a small, straightened paperclip, and you can de-pin the 3 wires out of the white plug and you should be good to go with no wire cutting.

Don't forget to add a dab of dielectric grease on the plug before reconnecting it to the LED board.

Take your time and be gentle with the board so you don't crack it while installing or removing it.

I am not sure of the differences between the older and newer bikes but I like to use a very small zip tie on the back of the connector to keep it 'mated' to the back of the LED board and make sure it doesn't vibrate off (if it's a loose connection).
