Resetting EHC/EFI after a battery reconnect

I saw here on the forum a BDM writeup? talking about turning ON the key and pressing the ON button then turning OFF the key for 15 seconds then ON after a battery reconnection or something like that. May be for EFI bikes only.

It could have been part of a starter bulletin or how to here.

Anyone have any info to share on this or where it may be located in the manual.

Thanks,

on a carb bike, i have disconnected and reconnected several times with no special procedure to go through. must just be EFI.

After disconnecting and reconnecting your battery on EFI's only. You must turn your key on, push run, you will hear the fuel pump cycle, then wait for your engine light to go off. Turn your key off, wait 15 seconds. She will be ready.

I have had my battery on and off several times while installing the wire plus and didn't go through this procedure. What's its purpose?

Thanks troppushcet,

That's what I recall for the sequence. It's an EFI box reset I guess.

A big thanks! for the info...and thank you all for your responses.

BidDogBro1, next to the battery under the seat is a sticker on my 08 Mastiff EFI that reads like this: After connecting the battery on an EFI equipped motorcycle you must turn the key to "on", hit "run", then turn the key "off" for at least 15 seconds to reset the sensor in the ECU. In the owners manual in the major components section for battery it states the same. I also remeber reading it in the service manual, but just too lazy to go and look.

You are welcome, glad it helped you. Another thing you also should remember, dealing with these EFI systems. After resetting, it will have to learn again. Meaning, after the motor temp reaches 200 degrees, it will start to learn YOUR riding habits. The first time you ride after resetting, it may run a little funny. But, will get better and better. Suggest taking it for a good ride.
