03 chopper 107" starter bad. Can anyone talk me through taking the starter off and I read somewhere that bdm designed the stater to be taken off without pulling primary cover , is this true.:loony:

First off "Welcome to the forum"!

As for the starter you have basically a HD softail so you could go down to your local HD dealer and get a manual. But only the 05 and newer allow you to pull the starter without removing the primary. This is most of the RSD bikes.

Welcome again,
Ray

I pulled my starter and had to pull my primary cover. Not sure if there is a better way but these are the steps i took:

1. drain primary oil
2. Remove outer primary cover
3. remove jackshaft bolt (there is a long bolt in the center that runs to the start I believe)
4. Removed pipes
5. there are two allen head bolts that hold the starter in place, remove those two and pull

how about replacing the starter relay? is that internal? i replaced the solenoid plunger and contacts. i replaced the starter switch at the hand grip and i tightened all the battery cables and connection yet my start button only works 1 out of 100 times. I've been using a solenoid cover with a button to manually engage the starter and it starts with no problem.
