Has anyone used any aftermarket replacements instead of BDM original equipment on there bikes. BDM shocks are a bit pricey was wondering if anyone has used someone elses and saved a few bucks. Ridin a 2004 RT chopper and BDM price was around 650.00 dollars thought I might do better somewhere else.

I put a set of Softail shocks from FleaBay on my Chop so I could lower it but they were to soft.

thanks BB, I noticed in the BDM parts these shocks are listed as heavy and hard so I don't know if BD asked for special specs on their shocks or not, guess I'll kep looking, thanks again.

I just put on progressive suspension 422 series adjustable preload and lowering shocks. Way better than stock. Found them on amazon shipped $372.29. They are chromed too! The part number is422-4035c. I weigh 200lbs and with her(120lbs) its rides perfect. They do sell a heavy duty version but I have the preload adjust to a lower setting so I think the one I have is good for a large weight range. I was able to lower the bike an additional 3/4 inch. I like it them alot and for the price. Well worth it.

What standup said, don't go with stock BD but whatever you get you'll need adjustable preload. The BD is much longer than a HD and has a longer moment so it needs a stiffer shock. I've never had a set rebuilt but I see a lot of guys do that.
