replacing rubber C/R covers

Ok, I give up. Ive searched here, Google and S&S, I cannot find the steps to replacing the rubber C/R covers. Im trying to determine how deep I need to go and if any special tools are going to be needed. Im just a common sense backyard mechanic, so I like to have some intell before I go in. Is there a step by step regarding this?

Thank you for the pic. It helps. I find it interesting that all that has to come off just to put little rubber booties on the C/R's Regarding the rockers, it is just a simple R&R or are there adjustments or anything I need to be aware of?

I would say you prolly need the gasket set and relieve the pushrods so there is no pressure on the rocker arms

Thanks. Now that clearly tells me I dont want to do it alone. Ive read about working with the pushrods, but not something I want to do without a knowledgeable person with me.

You can get them on without taking the covers off but its a pain in the ass. If you have the time it eould be way easier to take the covers off etc. It is possible though, I replaced my rear cr and condom with removing the covers

If your wanting to do it yourself Id say order 4 of the covers from Curtis, they are probably on a few bucks each. Try and put em on without removing the covers and if you mess the covers up, you have the other two on hand for whenever you take everything apart. I coated the inside with a little vaseline and takes patience and beers to work it on a lil at a time but you can get. Front would probably be easier than the rear

Pulling the Rocker Covers and the rockers really is very simple.
You don't have to tamper with the pushrods at all.
Just set them at their neutral position so there is minimal stress from the valve springs.
Remove the Rocker Covers.
Remove the 2 Rocker Arm support screws.
Remove the 4 Rocker Arm Support Bolts in an even pattern as there will still be some slight pressure from the springs.
Now the Silicone Cap is staring you right in the face.
Pull it off, slide the pretty new one on.
Put everything back on in reverse.
See page 8-4 in the 08 service manual for the proper torque and tightening sequence.

If your ride has some age on her or extensive miles then plan on replacing the rocker cover gaskets and o-rings at the same time or you will likely be facing a leak in short order.
If you still have TP Rocker Boxes this is also a great time to have a look at the top of your valve stems and see if you have the infamous alignment problem or not.
