Replaced starter this weekend(oil logged) - 05 Chopper

Energy One
I replaced my starter this weekend. The (click, click, click) thread was very useful in eliminating other potential problems.

The O ring on the old starter looked good and there was no evidence of oil surounding it. When I placed the oldstarter on a rag after extraction, I noticed 2-3oz of primary oil come out of it, I'm guessing there is another seal around the shaft itself and that's what must have been bad. New starter works great.

PS: I may be a newb and missed it some where, but for others, I want to let you know that my 05 did not need to have the primary taken off, there is no nut and tab on the end of the shaft, I did have to drop the belt drive to get the starter out and in. Not incuding the primary cover removal, it took about 2 hours, to replace. Read up on clutch adjustments on these before hand, all and all its pretty easy, even in the 100degf heat here in LV.

Peace

Thanks for the post - I searched the forums for "starter" leaks and recently had the a similar issue with my 05 Pitbull. I ended up with a new starter - there was the SB 1105 issue with the O ring - but after replacing this my starter was still spewing oil - the O ring inside the starter was bad - so I had to order a new one.

Can these be rebuilt?

does anyone know what the deal part number is and were to bet one. Mine was bad today on the inside one around the shaft behind the little gear that starts the bike

Look at post #4 he put a link in yellow, I think he has the seal listed in the starter parts section on the site...:D :2thumbs:
