Help me understand. Can the rubber boots be pulled off from the CR without taking the rocker boxes off?

they just slip on, so a set of plyers and grab then you should be able to pull them off. putting them on i dont see you doing that with out pulling rockerboxes

The rubber boots you can replace without removing boxes if you have enough room under your fuel tank. So, you might be able to remove tank to replace them. The CR itself you will need to remove the boxes. So if you are to replace the CR with new, they are around $320 + a gasket kit $52 and the socket is around $70.
