Anyone know a reputable repair shop in the Milton Florida area. Need speedo & odometer repaired plus I'm having difficulty shifting into lower gears.
Thanks

speedo/odo repair you would be better off replacing with the dakota digital unit available through MadDog here on the site. and as far as the shifting, could be something as simple as adjusting the clutch and lubing the heim joints on the shifter linkage. the joints tend to get a little nasty and just need a good cleaning occasionally.

AF Chief,

What is the issue with the speedometer? For the most part, now and days all are electronic and just get a pulse signal, so the old typical repair shops are not going to do much good, other than charging for something you can do yourself.

A little more on what the symptoms are that are leading you to need a repair shop for the speed/odometer would help. If it is bad, ValueTeck with the Dakota Digital is the way to go. More than reasonable price, excellent service and easy install with lots of nice features. Of course if it is something besides the actual speed/odometer itself, (say sending unit, wire, etc) will do no good either.

On the shifting, as already mentioned, check the adjustment, the hemi joints and alignment (all can be done easilly yourself with basic handtools) and read the many threads (do a search ) on how to adjust and clean-lube the hemi joints and shifter. If it is beyond that than maybe be pawls inside tranny or some other componet.

Good luck and post the symptoms of the issue with Speed/odometer so in case there could be some other advice to check before throwing money at a new one.

I'll come fix it for you free. Shifting issues are easy to fix and the speedo
s are know to crap out. When through 10 on mine before I finally went with the Dakota Digital from Don. Just routine maintenance :)

Fibersnake,
Thanks for the advise. Maybe it's time I learn a little more about the bike. I've always just sent it to shop cause I never had the time or confidence. No excuse now, so I'll dig in and attempt to fix myself. I bought the bike a few weeks back knowing the speedo and odometer were inop. When I hit the start button the speedo needle moves to about 60mph then returns to zero. However, when I ride the bike both speedo and odometer are not working. The gears shifted smoothly for several weeks after purchase of bike. Several days ago I had trouble shifting into 1st when decelerating and shifting up through other gears. I noticed the foot gear lever was a little lower to shift and if I tapped the outside of the foot shifter then I was able to correct it but only temporally. I will spend tonight reading through the forum threads and write down potential fixes. I'll keep you posted and let you know if I need help.

AFChief,

Notice that Raywood offer to get up with you and help you out on the shifting. Would hook up with him and take him up the offer. He will not lead you wrong and if one can tell you about the BD, it would be him. He does most of his own work, has the most mileage and has been aorund V twins for many years.

Plus he is in your area (or close by) at this time. Hook up with him and you will not go wrong.

For the foot lever sticking in the lower position lube your heim joints on the shift rod ends, it'll help greatly...
