Removing decals

Bike finally showed up today, and one of the first things I plan on doing is removing the decals that were put on the tank.

I've got two spider web stickers on the sides, and some form of asian character above the gas tank. I assume the best method would be hairdryer and razorblade. Just thought I'd check if anyone else had any tricks.

Here's a quick shot of the wife on it. You can see the decals in the first shot, second shot was just for the hell of it. She had a good time posing.

Nice looking scoot and wifey looks like she's ready to ride. Airbrush Ed might be the correct one to give you a tip on how to remove the decals safely...:2thumbs:

I have heated them with a hair dryer and then pulled dental floss under them in a sawing motion. I do not think a razor blade is what you should use. My .02 Good luck! - Gary C

WD40 & heat maybe. That's what I used to get the down tube stickers off. Who the f' puts stickers on a big dog and it looks like you have some tribal on there already? Seller should have gave a discount for his/her stupidity. Good luck. As mentioned BDB members should be able to give some good advice.

If they are vinyl stickers use a hair dryer set medium or high, you'll have to try, then slowly pull and remove. If they are a DECAL then try laying a wash cloth soaked in hot water or microwave it for 2 minutes and let sit over the decal for 10 minutes to soften the decal. Then try to peel by hand or wipe it off.

PUT the Razor Blade Down!

Alot will depend on the adhesive -- which you have no way to know what is there. Many good ideas above.

What's worked for me;

- WD-40 and dental floss
- Heat --not too hot or the clear will warp
- "Goo-Gone" -- needs to soak in, but this stuff is amazing at breaking down adhesive

Good luck!

Thanks all. Got em all off, WD-40 and fingernails. I don't think the pinstripping is factory, It's got a webb on the tank. (Probably why the guy put spider/web stickers on the sides). Can't read the signature from the guy, but it's right on the front fender.

If you can find some liquid wax from The Wax Shop, it'll remove the residue from the stickers. Pretty good at getting melted rubber & plastic off chrome too

what?

2nd the goo gone.
I used that on the downtube stickers and anything else for that matter, bugs, tar, burnt skin etc.
I'd heat up and remove with the hairdryer. then put the goo gone on to remove any residual adhesive. just give it time to work.
good luck
