Removal of transmission drain plug

For those of you with the two braided oil lines right in the way of the transmission drain plug (less than .5 inch of clearance on mine and the oil will drain all over the braided lines...plus blocked by other items on I believe 3 sides)...has anyone come up with a way to get the drain plug out (cut off hex wrench?) and drain the oil while keeping it off the braided lines? Any help would be most appreciated. Would like to remove the Redline that is in mine and replace with Spectro.

I loosen the clamps that hold the two braiden lines together, took a flat bar and pulled the lines out just enough to get the allen wrench on. It can be done but it's a PITA
PS I cut a plastic bottle to catch the oil, not all but most.

You can loosin' the oil lines at the oil tank and it will allow you to push the lines over. Get creative like i did and cut the handle area off a gallon milk jug and leave as much "tail" about 6 or 7 inches long by 2 inchs wide on it to let the fluid run down the plastic and out the handle area (remove the cap of course) and it to a pan.:2thumbs: I would post a pic of this most ingenious spout but i don't know how:bang:

Carpetman, ya beat me to it

Great ideas guys. Sounds a lot better than the duct tape and hammer approach I was considering. When you loosen the oil lines...do you back the "nuts" all the way out or just a tad...and do you have to replace any "O" rings, etc. to keep them from leaking? Many thanks for your help!

Back um out as much as it takes to move the lines. and no on the o-ring it is a flare fit so don't worry. Might get a couple of drops from the line during the trans change but it is sooooo much easier with them loose:2thumbs:

Guys...

Thank you very much for the suggestions on the plug removal. Here's how I did it...

1) Put bike on Pitbull lift.
2) My bike has a "clamshell" clamp that holds the two braided lines together just forward of the tranny drain plug. I removed the clamp...it has one hex screw in the center and a piece of foam on the backside on the frame to hold it in place.
3) Once I removed the clamp...I could push against the lines and they (surprisingly) would move over about .25 inch without having to take them loose from the oil tank.
4) Hex/allen wrench was too long to clear the upper braided line. I cut almost .5 inch off the allen wrench.
5) Cleaned the frame just behind the braided lines. Taped a piece of aluminum foil to the frame...pulled it over the braided lines...sloped it down to make a trough, and then back up and taped to lower exhaust pipe.
6) Used a plastic jug to catch oil in, with another one inverted on top with the bottom cut out for a wide funnel.
7) Had loosened drain plug before taping foil up-so I finished removing plug-oil drained on aluminum foil, ran down "trough", and into plastic jug.

NOTE: Rode bike for about 10 miles before this to bring up to temp for easy drain.

Tried to figure out a way to incorporate a hampster on a wheel as well-but did not have enough time.

Hope this helps someone-thank you all again for your help!

Gas...went to parts store yesterday and found a 90 degree fitting that was correct size. It was brass but would at least let me know what would fit until I could find a stainless steel fitting. The fitting I tried was .25 inch fine pipe threaded...got it at NAPA. The fitting will not go in the trap door and clear the braided lines. Still tinkering with this...and thank you so much for your help/emails this weekend. I really do appreciate it! Not refilled bike tranny yet.

Keep at it... make an exact list of what is needed. I'm sure there are many guys that will want to do the same.

Be careful of the Brass, it’s soft and don’t like shakin around!!!!

Thank you BB Chopper. For now just have the drain plug in-used the brass as a "tester". It will not clear lines.
