Does anyone know how hot (temp wise) you need to do in order to break the bond from red Loctite?
I have a stubborn bolt that is close to paint and don't want to damage the paint...

Way before 482 degrees is my bet! Got a pic of what you're working with?

Thanks guys for the quick responses!

I am trying to remove the small set screws (2 each side) that hold the sissy bar to the struts on an 04 Chopper.

They are recessed into the strut from below and right next to the fender.
I think I will try to use a small single tip soldering iron that fits into the hole. It's rated to 725 degrees, so it should break the thread lock. I will have to be careful with the paint...

Heat the alan wrench till it glows and then hold it in the screw and let it transfer the heat. Might be a little faster than a soldering iron

That sounds like a good idea, as long as you don't lose the temper in the allen wrench

Well at least you didn't go green. I use blue for everything, never used red on my dog. I know for hub nuts but never had a problem with that. Good luck

:2thumbs:I don't think it's red Loctite that is keeping that screw from turning. I think its more like RUST. I would take the fender off and remove the fender from the struts. Now go after that bad boy with all you got heat, impact wrench or take it to a machine shop and ask them to remove it for you. You might save a bunch especially if the wrench slips and takes out the paint on the fender oooh.

Remember I told you so
