Recommended Carb/Air Cleaner

Looking at changing out the carb for a little better performance.
107 S&S
I like the usual spike to the front Air Cleaner but wanted to ask if they are better for performance or just look pretty. Also if they hinder performance over the stock unit.
Any carb/air cleaner recommendations appreciated.

if money does not matter, go with the triple-x conversion of the super-g shorty and use the s&s dual runner. $$$$$ but seems like the best performance.

I want that dual runner bad but was looking to go cheaper than $5-600 for just a cleaner.
No idea what that carb is. What brand is that? So I can research or price it.

Ok so I've done a bit of research.
The Super G Shorty is around $300
The XXX G kit is $175.50 plus shipping.

Am I reading right that the stock carb is the S&S E?

Your carb should be marked if it is a super g or an e. What other mods have you made to your engine. John Sachs did my carb and I am very happy with it. If you want big hp gains you will find them inside the motor not necessarily in the carb. It is a whole system that all works together.

Just taking baby steps into the modification game of the dog.
Only mods are Martin Bros pipes.
From what I've read I would like to go with a 585 cam and a bigger carb and different air cleaner.
I would imagine I have an E.
Wondering if I do have an E would it be worth it to have it sent out to be worked on and is it really worth it to spend the additional $300 on the G.
Price difference basically $300.

with the '04 107, the E is a good match with no internal work done. in '05 they used the E with restricter plates, along with smaller valves, to de-tune for the EPA. getting Triple-X to modify the carb will give you better performance but maybe not enough to justify without internal work. John Sachs, i think, would do you a good job on the motor and the carb when you get to that point. yes, the s&s dual runner is expensive, but once you have it you have it and it would be good for whichever carb you decide on, wouldn't have to get another intake.

you probably already have the 585 cam in your bike if its not a epa motor from s@s. somebody will chime in. I did a xxx carb and dual runner intake on his 2007 chopper and once you get it dialed in it is awsome sounding and performing!!!

That would be disappointing if I already had the 585 cam as I don't want to throw thousands at the motor because I've been down that road with muscle cars. Upgrade one thing, this breaks, that breaks. Have to upgrade this and that. Just wanted to squeeze a bit more out and know that I did it.
So, spend the money on the G and get it XXX'd and do the cam, or get the E done and do the cam?
If it has the cam, my idea of a fast bike is far removed grin others opinions. It's fast but not like I want.

Just my opinion, but I don't think you will be able to "feel" a difference with just a carb and air cleaner upgrade if the carb you have is working and adjusted correctly.
I can tell you from personal experience that the difference between a poorly tuned stock carb and a properly tuned stock carb can be pretty big. And it is ridiculously easy to tune these S&S carbs.
Mine is an '06 with the 117, so I know it is a little different than yours but just FYI, when I bought mine it ran fine although it didn't have jets large enough for the exhaust it came with and was adjusted incorrectly to compensate. My accelerator pump adjustment was way off.
Putting the correct jets and adjusting it like the S&S instructions say to do made a big difference in "seat of the pants" feel. And it only cost me around $5o for the jet kit with all the different size jets. I bought that kit with all the jets because now I have them if I decide to do other mods on the engine.

Good point Bearman. I'll take it to my buddy who's been showing me the ropes with these dogs. Only vehicles I've nodded were EFI. He's convinced me to keep the E and get a Thunder Jet done on it.

IMO, I would get a "G" carb and not worry about a Thunderjet. Can always be added later if you can't find a good tuner. Properly tuned (main jet wise), you'll gain a lot more with the "G" carb on a 107" engine than a T-jet on an "E".

So you don't know whether to believe your buddy whose "showing you the ropes" but couldn't tell you which carb you have or a well-known V-twin expert?

Are you shittin' me?!?! :bang:

I said now I'm not sure which carb I want to buy or mod.

But I would like to see you slam your head into a wall.
