What's the trick in taking it off?

EVerything has bee taken off, the set screw backed off and there is no movement from the rod. I even beat the hell out of it punch and a 5lb mini sledge and the shit still isn't moving.

Am I missing something?

Axle nut and 2 set screws per side (stacked) right.....sounds like axle is rusted to crush tube/bearing spacer maybe?

Like purple dog said, there are two set screws per side, take out the outer set screw out and there is another behind it. Axle nut and axle should come out.

put the nut on then use the punch so as not to gall the threads to get it started

strap the bike down, a big fuckin hammer and have at it

make sure you have somebody else hold the punch so you don't miss and hit your OWN HAND. :2thumbs::2thumbs::roll::roll::roll:

I have a 2006 K9 and did mine 25 min ago. I removed and backed off the set screws and axle nut on the left sideof the bike. I then screwed in a 5" long 5/8" x fine threaded bolt to give me swinging room and protect the threads. Worked great. A trip to the hardware to play it safe. I overlooked the fact that you should remove the brake caliper first. Good luck.
