Rear wheel bearing replacement.

Energy One
Get a good one. Not no cheap stuff. Should come right out.
I did, had to go to Home Depot, cost me $20 for a 9". Now I gotta get the damn hub off. Going to my pops house to get a breaker bar and an extension. He's also got an old Craftsman torque wrench I can use too.

Do you usually put the pulley (2 bearing side) in first or the brake side, or does it matter?

I still gotta get @knothead a measurement for my squish tube.

Just for fun I'd put some green Loctite retaining compound in there when ya pop the bearings in. But thats just me. Ive got a hub on the Pitbull that wallowed out to where the bearing falls in. As long as the thing is seated decent and doesnt spin you'll be good. I looked around for someone to weld up the hub and then it could be bored out to spec. I couldnt find anybody to take it on so Loctite was My solution.

Crazy what loctite can do these days!

I have to ask if there was a spacer in that hub?
Yeah, but I soon realized that when I changed out the bearings last time I only changed 1 out on each side and not the secondary bearing on the pulley side..I had no idea there was a 3rd bearing...

Total dumbass move on my part..

I tried all night trying to get that race out and couldn't get a lip on it to get it out with the punch.

Now I'm afraid I'll have to have it machined out.

This video may help clarifiy the proper use of the bearing puller. It usually takes a couple for me to pull my head out and do it right.

I’m afraid that isn’t going to work. I have 3 different but great bearing pullers and none would remove the race on the bearing on the Ironhorse. I literally had to cut it out. Now I don’t have a welder as Knot suggested which would obviously be the best way to get the race out especially the inner rear bearing race. Not even sure you could cut that out. Did you get the hub removed?

Take a couple pictures so we can see what you are seeing in the hub with the frozen race.

I tried for an hour or more last night with all kinds of punches, couldn't get a bite on that race to get it out. Was thinking someone could weld a piece of pipe or whatever on it then knocking it out that way.
Damn it. That sum bitch is in there good….
Put that hub in the freezer for a day or two.. then hit that sum bitch with a drift punch

I do have to say I deleted my post from yesterday because I sounded like an asshole. It was not my intention. I was only trying to say that instead of beating on it for an hour and trying other stuff that doesn’t work obviously. Just take it to someone who can heat the race and it will most likely fall right out. I do wish you the best and hope for a successful outcome. I am not the best at writing what I want to say and most of the time it comes across wrong, I do apologize for that.

As someone who has put his foot in his mouth more than once, I'll take that apology all day long, and I appreciate it.

Sometimes reflection on something that was said can bring about our true intentions once we have time to think about it.

I've got one more idea before I do decide to take that advice to take it to someone else for help.

Today is my R&R day so I'm thinking 18 holes of golf and a few cold ones before I get started on it again later today.

Cheers!

That’s a great way to get prepped for the frustration. You have such a beautiful BigDog motorcycle. I know those hubs ain’t cheap but if you were to get some new ones and the correct spacers you would not have to worry about a bearing failure due to the existing damage. And the bearings should be replaced every time you replace your rubber on the back. Tell your Pops to get you some for a early Christmas present. Either way I hope you get it done correctly for yourself & the motorcycles well being. Cheers!
