Need to replace the rear tire on my Road King CVO 180/55-18 Looking at Dunlap American Elite vs Metzler Cruisetec. What do you recommend and best place to buy it.

I have been using Dunlop for 2 years on current HD Ultra and they are great (grip/traction, wear/durability, and price). I bought them online and had them shipped and then installed at a reputable tire shop (taking them only the wheels) - I think J&P had a package deal. I have gotten in the habit of marking with tape direction of rotation so there is no question and they just line up the arrows.
To be fair I have been using Dunlop on all my bikes for a long time now (to include on the track) and will likely continue...so I am a little biased.

Way back when I had a 180 tire bike I prefered the Dunlop since I found it had a better curve to the tire that allowed better cornering for my chopper. I know that sounds weird but that was my experience. And the price was better. If I had to do it today I'd check out shinko's as well.

Michelin commander 3 are prolly the best for comfort and durability. Have found they can be tough to find due to high demand. :2cents:

I've had three rear and one front American Elites on my Ultra. Mileage always seems to be about the same, 13,000 to 15,000 rear and 21,000 on the front. I wanted to try Avons this last time before my trip to Montana but I couldn't get one, The Avon's kept being back ordered. I'll try again on the Avon's next go around.

I tried a set of avons on my harley. They are very "quick". The bike feels like it is riding on a razor blade. I know this sounds like it would be a good thing, but it makes the bike feel top heavy because the bike leans so easily. If you want a set of tires for aggressive riding through twisty turns, then you would love them. For regular cruising, other tires make the bike feel a bit more stable.

Thanks for the info. I got 16,000 miles out of the stock D407, but it should have been changed about 1,000 mile back.
I guess I like living on the edge. Ha Ha
