Hey guys, I have a 2008 Mutt with powder coated rear struts. Does anyone know if it would be possible to strip the powder coat and polish them? I'm cheap and can't afford to buy polished yet.

Powder coating is pretty difficult to remove. I would say remove them and take them to a good media blaster to remove it and repolish them. Do not have someone use sand on them, it will toast them for sure. A light media should do a good job and not harm the aluminum. A little wetsand and a buffer will make them like new.

bdmridgeback - I had heard that permatex gasket remover will take the powder coat off. Have you ever heard of this?

Thanks for the tips moprblms, I'll look for the Aircraft stripper. I don't think the rear struts will fit a Mutt. Thanks for the help.

Any good epoxy capable stripper should handle the job if you can't get the aircraft specific type no problemo

Just say NO!

If the Mutts don't come powdered all the time... I bet you can find a cheap replacement polished ones on ebay... buy them and I bet you can get more for your powdered ones than what you pay for the polished ones.

That I believe would be the smarter option.

Gas Man - I believe all the Mutts come powder coated. the only way you can get the polished ones is if you purchase the polished strut/sissy bar package. I don't want to spend 500 + dollars.
Since the Mutt has so many color options, I doubt that I could find someone that would want them.
Thanks for the help though.

Did you call the local dealers to find out? You just might be able to bring your bike in for a strut swap. It's worth a try.

It could be a trade with a little cash.
