REAR SPROCKET

While out today working on bike I thought I would go for a quick spin. While riding I noticed a squeaking noise from my drive belt. I looked down aat the rear sprocket and noticed it was out of alignment and moving very slightly back and forth. After riding (Very carefully) home put the pup on the jack got out the ol allens and found that 3 of the 5 bolts that hold on the rear sprockets were very loose. Anybody else ever have this happen?

No, but I use red locktite on them and check them in my routine check about every 500 miles. I have had the following bolts vibrate loose or fall out:

front fender bolt (the one that goes through the fork,
bolt in gas tank mount (tank almost fell off running 70mph on interstate),
bolts that hold the voltage regulator (fell out and lost the spacer),
headlight bolt (one that goes through the triple),
set screw that holds headlight trim ring in (creating an annoying buzzing sound),
and a few bolts on stock exhaust.

But I started giveing everything a once over every 500 miles. If anything is loose, it get red/blue locktite depending on what it is. No probleum since I started doin that. When you hit about 4000-4500 rpms, shit starts coming loose.

Using High Strength (red) loctite, tighten these bolts to 40 ft lbs in a criss cross pattern then to 50 ft lbs. Check these bolts frequently or lay off the throttle some, but what would be the fun in that.

There is a number of different Red loctite strengths. Some require heat to break them loose and some are for high vibration which is what you should use...
I think 2760 red and 2440 blue is what BDM recommends..

if you dont want to remove your wheel you can rotate the wheel so the bolt is below the swing arm at the back of the swing arm if you know what i mean:cheers:

Well, just got the call from the dealer and looks like the bolts had backed out enough to eat my belt up...great...the even better news is that they don't have a belt...had to order one! So looks like I'm missing out on the 60 degree weekend...damnit!
