Rear shock mount stripped

I took off the bottom bolt that holds the rear shock/spring on so that I could replace the license plate holder. When I went to put it all back together, the bolt would not grab. :bang: The threads on the bolt look good, but the hole itself looks like it may be partly stripped. This may be a dumb question, but am I screwed or is there a way for a shop to re-thread that hole? I made sure it isn't the bolt by taking out the top bolt from the shock and trying that one too. The bottom bolt threads into the top hole just fine.

I've been looking around the internets for solutions to stripped out holes and I think I may be able to get a tap and die set and do it myself. Is this correct? I just don't want to do something that will cause me a bigger headache later.

you can look into a heli coil kit to fix your problem ask at any auto store they should sell them.
I just got back from AutoZone and they didn't have the one I needed (tap or helicoil). I will hit up Harbor Freight tomorrow now that I know I have options. I don't think it's so stripped that a tap won't work, but at least I know the Helicoil is an option. Thanks for the suggestion, Buster.

Try American Bolt 512-443-8521 or Austin Bolt Co (512) 836-1611 there in Austin, they should have Heli coil kits

Austin bolt off of Rutland has every bolt and bolt accesory you can ever think of. If you can not get it fixed, I am sure my son can fix it as he was a machinist and he is very good at fixing big dog motorcycles. PM me if you need his help.
