Rear fender removal.

Been to the How-To`s, might have missed it. The removal of all the sheet metel on a 08 K-9 looks pretty straight foward but the rear fender, not so much. Is there a how to or a right way to take this item off?

Thanks Trainguy

Have not done it on K9 but on a Mastiff - I think that same will apply.

The 4 strut bolts - thats all you need to begin with - once removed you can tackel the bolts that actually fasten the fender to the struts)

1) Remove seat and battery
2) Disconnect the rear tail light connector - if you are forgetful like myself - tag it or take pic's
3) (precaution - not necessary) stuff a few rags between the top of the tire and fender.
4) IMPORTANT - have someone hold the fender when doing this - remove the 2 struts - 2 bolts each. Keep the washers carefully -(if you need to get new ones - Master Carr has them)
5) Once the strut bolts are off - CAREFULLY remove the fender/struts (in an upward motion) from the bike WITHOUT scratching the frame
6) Proceed to remove the bolts that hold the fender to the struts
7) label the LEFT and RIGHT turn wires (will help when putting them back)
8) You will have to remove the connectors within the turn lights in order to get them off - IMPORTANT label and make note of the color/pin outs

Hope that helps

When you put your struts back on the rear fender, how much do you torque the bolts? Im getting mine painted and don't won't to crack the fiberglass.

Gas has a post on here about torque specs. search it and print it and put it in your "book of knowledge!"
