Rear Cylinder Not Firing

So i went out for a ride today and the bike ran like shit. Power was low and at times it would kick back in full power. I was thinking loose wire connection.

Limped home and tested for spark (by removing the plug and grounding on the engine fins). I'm getting no spark on the rear cylinder and its not the plug, wire, or coil. When I switch the input to the coil, I get spark to the rear plug.

My 07 ironhorse uses the gill ignition. I have a 111. What are my options ? Also read that crank position sensor could cause problems, but how do I test it ?

If you are getting spark for the front cylinder then I would say the crank position sensor is okay.

If your ignition system uses seperate coil trigger wires, go back through the wire harness and do a continuity (Ohm meter) test from beginning to end on the wire that feeds the rear cylinder coil signal.

You got a dual or single fire ignition? I'm with BD Bro don't think it's the crank pos sensor. Triple check those coil wires and make sure the jumper wire is on there. Also check the ignition module. On a single fire setup that will tell which coil to fire. On a dual fire I'd say it's a bad coil.

I have the stock Gill single fire. I will check all the wiring. Jumper wire ? Not sure what u mean ?

Seems if I had a bad coil, it wouldnt fire no matter which input I used (if that makes sense). If i only use coil input one, i can switch'em to get spark on both coils. Using coil input two, I dont get spark to either coil. So something is on that 2nd line before the coil.

Ill do some more diggin in the daylight tomorrow. Thanks for the advice/help guys !

Your diagnosis is good and idicates the rear cylinder coil trigger wire is open or the ignition box is bad.

Checked continuity on the wires back to the plug on the ignition module. All wires are good and isolated from the frame. So I dont suspect any bare spots under the tank...

I've read bout an assload of problems with the AIH / Gill ignition system. While the bike is down for winter, I am thinking about just junking it for something else. What do you guys suggest ? I want to keep a single fire set-up. I would like to get rid of the gill crank sensor and igniter (weak links). If there is something plug and play, that would be great ! Thanks in advance

I had this same problem, it was a broken wire off the ignition unit. Was near the battery for me. Hope you find it.
