Rear caliper mount

Is there any reason why the caliper bracket moves? The spacers are tight and can't turn them by hand but when the brake is applied the bracket moves up and down about 3/16 of an inch in both directions.

It doesn't move side to side just up and down as if it has a swivel. All of the spacers are there and installed properly just trying to figure this out.

Where the bracket slides into the frame is where all of the play is. Should there be something in there keeping the bracket stable? I never seen anything there, just asking.

Thanks ya'll!

A few months back had the same problem found out that I didn't have the proper amount of torque on the shaft on the back wheel I think it calls for 65 ft lbs. Someone will chime in and correct me don't have my torque #'s with me.

Oscar -- you're right...something is off. Not sure about your frame, but my caliper bracket aligns with a stop on the swingarm to prevent that from happening. There should be something stopping that travel - not just the torque of the axle.

I drilled and tapped a small hole for about a 3/16 socket head bolt I ran
threw the bracket and snugged it up on the bottom of the flange on the swingarm.
After the wheel is in alighnment I tighten the axel nuts and then tighten the calliper
bracket bolt I installed. I also put a nut on the bolt to tighten to the bracket as well.
Its the way H.D. has their Softail brakes set up - I figured what the hell !
