Rear Brake Switch

Did 350 miles on the weekend, when i noticed my rear brake light was not working.
Front brake working fine.

Brake pads are down an awaiting for Mick to get stock.

Q. Would worn pads affect the rear brake switch?

Q. Never heard of the brake light switch going before, but could it be the problem?

No pads do not affect the switch

You may want to go through your brake switch harness first and see if you have any breaks anywhere. The switch can go bad but its not very often.

That's has been cause of my brake lights not working 2 times...

Check under the fender, just fixed one that the tire rubbed the wire in half.

The brake lite works, just not off my rear brake, front only.

Put a multi meter on it and it has power going to it with foot on or off WTF.

Depending on where you're measuring it you could just be seeing the voltage to the tail (marker) lights... that would be the red wires to ground.

If your brake lights work using the hand lever your problem has to be the rear brake switch or the wires between it and the EHC. Disconnect the switch and touch the wires (black and orange) together. Does the brake light work? If so, the switch is bad.

Thanks Denis, That makes sence.
I have a WP and some of the wiring particularly the flashers were a mess after ADR mods.
Have not heard of a rear brake switch going anywhere else on this forum.
Gotta be a first time for everything.

I have my doubts that this is the first time. I know I had to replace one on my Harley. It's a cheap part. :lol:

One other thing... you may want to make sure your back brakes are bled well. An air pocket will also give the little pressure switch fits. :up:

Just something else to check, i have my front brake lite working so i can still ride.
I will get on to the checks today Friday as i only work half the day.
I have looked for the obvious, broken wire and the like, but nothing found.
Auctually my rear switch wire joins my front then runs via a relay to the brake lite.
So things to check are:

1. Cross the wires to see if it is the switch.
2. Bleed the brakes.

If i need a switch and i think i will i have found several.
BUT.
Can someone tell me whether the tread in the PM rear brake is M10x1.5mm pitch OR 3/8" x 24 tpi.
Arlen Ness has a 3/8" and several others have metric.

I would hate to asume.

Up date.
I located a pressure switch and pads locally (thanks anyway Mick) as i needed to ride.
Took longer to bleed the brake than it did to do the change out.
