rear brake switch cable assembly removal

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I am a newbie at wrenching on my own.
So here goes:
I am trying to remove the rear brake switch cable assembly and I can loosen the nut for it but there are 2 wires attached to a red cylinder inside of the nut, if i keep twisting the nut to remove it, will it damage the two wires attached? Am I supposed to loosen the wires somehow?
