Rear Brake Rotor

Has anyone had their rear brake rotor come apart yet? Mine did today. I hit the rear brake and boom! the rotor is okay, but the inside that holds the floating pins that hold the rotor just broke on each spoke. I could take my hand and just spin the rotor around and around. that sux.

The guy down at the dealer told me it was a first for him too. I wish i would have thought to take pics before i took it to him. I took it to the birmingham dealer yesterday (since the nashville dealer did my first maintenance and i know not to take it there and has broke me from using dealers) because he said they would warranty it. I usually never let anyone touch my bike other than me, but they wouldnt give me the part and let me install it. i hope it didnt screw up the caliper. I asked the guy to make sure they checked the calipers and checked the rotor for flatness, but you know how that goes.

I know exactly what you mean about the Nashville Dealer...Broke me of them too.
Glad you are alright after that. Could of been nasty for sure.

So what was the outcome?
I wonder if the pad wore down close to the metal and turned some in the caliper allowing it to hit the washer and C clips that hold the rotor on. I have wear marks on my rotor where it has done this before I changed the pads out. The inside rear rotor pad did this on mine.

Neil,
The rotor was fine. My bike only has a little over 12,600 miles on it. I do my own maintainence and i replaced the pads at the 10,000 mile maintainence and the old ones still a little bit of pat left on them. Big Dog okayed the work and the dealer (American Classic Cycles in Pelham AL) are waiting for the parts to get there. Big Dog said they had not had seen that happen before and wanted pics and the old parts. I hope it will be finished by this weekend. My full sized dodge pickup is killing me on gas!!!! I guess I would ride my sportster to work though. although my buddy told me i looked like a monkey riding a football on it. lol The dealer did tell me that Big Dog asked him if the mileage on my bike was right. Seems they couldnt believe someone put almost 13,000 miles on a chopper in only a year.

It is awesome to hear you were able to ride it and enjoy it for that many miles in a year. I salute you and envy that myself. I have 8500 miles in a turbulent first year but all is working out as time allows.
We will have to hook up and meet sometime when possible and share some horror stories........
I went out on a charity run today and we got caught in a monsoon of a rain storm....A friend of mine was ridding the dog when it hit and it was good to see it from behind and see how it looked going down the road. Throwing a rooster tail up for days.
I will take a pic of my rear rotor and show you how it wore when my rear pad went south. I have got a set of LRB pads to put on both wheels after the replacement one wears down on the back. Seems the rear pads have been replaced once already at one of the services or when it went to Kansas for some needed service. I will have to look closely at what is going on back there. Something is happening to have two sets go out in 8500 miles. The front look real good. I typically use the front pretty heavy when breaking along with the rear. I wonder if the mass of the 300 and rim causes this much wear on the rear pads?

Nope, Not me. I have yet to go to the Jack Daniels Distillery town square. I should have a brick in the road with my name on it though from all the Jack I drank in days gone past.
I ran into 2 people from the great state of Alabama in Nashville one day picking my bike up from that local dealer. We talked about a lot of the issues I have had and some bad mishaps from that dealer to some other owners, but I cannot remember the name of the two BDM riders. Probably a little pissed when I left as well.

I do have a Black 07 Bulldog though....
I am standing in the middle with the vest on and without a beer for some reason...

I had the same problem with my 06 Mastiff with 6k miles on it. Took almost a month to get replacement parts but was covered by warrenty.
