Really Really bad day with the Dog

Man what a wrecked week. Found out my 2004 has a transmission just about shot. Big Dog mechanic said for sure 2nd,3rd,4th and 5th gears all have broken teeth. Not sure about 1st and 6th because there was too much junk inside, know more when he digs in tomorrow. Said it was Again not even 4000 miles on it. Bill should be between 1800-2400 dollars. Believes its the main bearing that went out and caused all the damage. Hoping Baker transmission might kind of help out in someway, guess we will see how good their company is. This sucks really really bad!!

Why so much when there are trannies on Ebay for 500 bucks or less all the time (Over Drive 6 speeds) it just uses a regular harley gearset not a DSSC I reckolect an 04 is left hand drive so anything will fit in a Jims case that fits a harley up to 06

I have read countless stories of how the dealers screw the shit outa folks cause they figure if they bit on buyin a 30 thousand dollar bike they will
bite again on the repairs that tranny from Baker haint but about 1500 gearset is even less

Baker is selling six speed gearsets for under a grand now how much do you guys get for a job that the book pays three hours or do I just misunderstand your posts that none of our ilustiuos dealers have ever ripped us off

Thanks for the input on the situation. You know like many of you I am probably not the typical big dog owner. Could not afford the 30 grand for a new bike, so I had to shop around for months until I found one I could afford, low miles and thought in good shape. So the cost of this is way more than a drop in the bucket for me. I will say this the guy working on my big dog in the wichita big dog shop is being very kind about everything and gave me a number of a guy who rebuilds transmissions all the time and could maybe have one for me, hope that works out. If not then I will have to buy a tranny that I could afford, no matter where it comes from. Not trying to flame but so far the American made Baker tranny aint making me do flips all things considered. Trust me i am as patriotic as anyone you will find coming from a military family. Guy at Baker was staying in contact with me about the transmission until I finally told him what the problem and the cost was, have not heard from him since.

Hope you get it fixed up right. By your post I assume you bought used so you have no idea how the original owner treated the bike. Just for comparison I have 72,000 on my bike and the transmission has never been touched. My first BD was an 03 and I put 24,000 on it without any issues so the trannys are real good. You might want to have your ignition downloaded and see how the bike was run before you bought it just so you know.

Beins your in Whichita why dont you give Dereck a call at Mcloud`s Custom Cylce as I think he bought all over runs from BigDog and I think he will help you reasonably and has the parts you need

Throw an Ultima in there for $650 and sell the Baker case and whats left of the gears on Egay. It will almost be a break even. You can put the new tranny in yourself, not hard at all. I've put Ultima's in a few bikes, no issues.

What do you guys mean by a Jims case, I have been looking for a transmission already on line, figured I needed a 6 speed with overdrive, left hand drive and also a 4 or 5 bolt pattern, what else am I looking for. On the issue of how it was ran, I asked the big dog tech the same thing was it just rode hard and he said the teeth were not ground down or anything like that, they were just sheered off like a failure in the main bearing. So bad in fact that one tooth got lodged in or something and cracked the case, so something else I cant sell back. If someone would give me a little more info exactly what I need I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance for all the help
