I have a friend that just purchased a used 2005 Pitbull. The 2005 Pitbull had the big split gas tank with two gas caps.

Well.....my friend did not know that the left hand gas cap turns the opposite way, and he wrench on it so hard that he broke the rubber seal under the insert....or something like that.:( It sounds like the gas cap assembly just keeps turning.:bang:

So I ask the experts.....does any one know how to fix this, or what parts he will need to try and find?

Does anyone know if this is actually a Harley gas tank? If it is.....maybe a Harley dealer could help.

Thanks for your help :)

Yep, typical to the split tank. What he did was broke the glue / epoxy that holds the paint saver (The silver part that the cap screws in to) in to the tank. What you need to do now if possible is just unscrew the whole assembly = cap and paint saver that feels like they are bonded together....left side may be reverse threaded on the PS also, and get the cap out of the ps. Once that is done the ps needs to be re-glued in to the tank. Now, chances are that when you remove this assembly you are going to have a lot of crap fall down in to the tank from the old glue....maybe not...but I would watch that real close.
Once you get the ps reinstalled, either get a cap without the black nylon threads or like I did, file the nylon threads down and keep them lubed up and watch the torque when you tighten the cap next time. It only needs to be snug. Hope this helps!

Now that I read it again....does the paint saver turn or just the gas cap? Either way I think you are going to have to remove it as I described.
