R.I.P KIT

Energy One

Hirter6Pack

Not Quite A Guru
I went with the R.I.P over a year ago because it is considered as O.M.E put in all new BigDogs. It was an easy install for me and works great. The wiring harness could be made a little smaller if the wires where layed in the loom more paralle like wire lacing instead of just gathered and wrapped.

So the RIP Gen II is just the EHC replacement ?
What else new EHC could be than new EHC?

Like Franco said, there is about 100 pages on this subject, but yes, RIP kit, DOC's, Axel's EHC are all easy to install EHC replacements.

You might also rewire oldskool with bunch of relays or use different Thunderheart model (RIP and DOC are based on Thunderheart) ,
or maybe M-Unit V.2 by Motogadget. That is one interesting option I would like to see someone install properly with new harness.

Or you can go totally bonkers and get Wires Plus.

ERIC is the man COOL
I can't disagree with that statement I completely agree, Eric is the Man!

I've got about 5000 on the RIP GenI and no issues and about 2000 miles on the Docs ESC. No issues on either one.

My RIP GenI was the first version but from what I understand the issues I have with on/off and High/low have been fixed with an extra momentary controller and shipped with the new system.

You can't go wrong with either one in my opinion. I do like the Docs Extra voltage light tied into the low oil pressure. Docs kit is a little more expensive.

I am happy with both kits, I was dissapointed with the RIP kit not having the Run/Off and high/low correct , but like I said they have since fixed that and at that point I don't have much to complain about. Surely not enough to argue one over the other unless you want that voltage light which can only be had with Doc.

I have no experience with axles kit so I can't saw otherwise. I'd prefer to get rid of that Printer Cable connection but that's me.

Some have 60.000 on original, I have about 20.000 on Wires Plus, works fine, but I still consider those both a piece of shit. You can't really tell if some system is good based on few installations and few thousand miles... we can assume all the new systems are better than old ones, I wouldn't go any further. Except maybe saying that less connectors is always better, though I have perfectly good looking old connectors on my old computer

I would never recommend a wires plus system they suck. It's been a nightmare. I have had it on my ridgeback for only 1100 miles have had to replace two relays at over 250 each. A crap warranty as well.

I just got my brand new 2005-09 EHC Replacement System from Ivan @ bigdogisback.
For my 2005 Copper it replaces the old EHC (BD4030-05) that has some permanent contact issues.
I like the quality and the way they prepared even if the price is not less.
It comes together with the power harness that is completely prepared with the original connectors, so you can't missconnect. Unfortunately it doesn't power up anything, no light, no announciator, no speedo etc... so I am analyzing and searching for the error... when I change back to my old EHC the dog runs and all lights and functions are ok (but not permanent because of these old harness connectors and maybe some other undetected ones) ... So when I solved my electrical s... I let you know. If someone has some advice.. would be very great because I am not an elctrician... Maybe it is the ignition switch where at the orange cable that goes IN I measured 13,06V and when the key is in position ON there comes on the black cable out of that switch only 2,22V to the new controller... maybe there should be 13,06V too ?? I'm waiting for some answers from Ivan and Matt.. but unfortunately it seem lot of them are on hollidays right now..

Black wire on ignition?

You should have two orange and you should have 13 going in and out when on. Did you change your switch to a 3 position?

You are right, directly at the ignition switch there are 2 orange cables, but at connector 21 one of these orange cables goes on a black one that goes then ove connector 24 and 23 to PIN B21 from backbone harness connector B. No the switch has only the 2 positions ON and OFF
