Ed, what process are you using for the ground panel? After grinding, what are you using to clean and do you use adhesion promoter before clearing it? Are you clearing it first or just spraying the Kandy colors then clearing? Great looking job, as always. Now I got to go out to the garage and fire up the compressor and play, thanks for the inspiriation!

Hi Roaddawg, Ok here goes :
WEAR RUBBER GLOVES!!!
After grinding, blow off with air
Wipe down with thinner on a cloth rag that will not leave any nubs
Blow off again
Spray adhesion promoter (if you want, couldn't hurt)
Spray your kandies
Clear with 3-5 heavy coats - you have to bury the grinding scratches
(personally, I would set the project aside for a few weeks to a month - to allow the clear to shrink up before you proceed)
Sand with 600 dry DA, then 800 wet
Pinstripe as desired
Fix any touch-ups needed
Re-clear
Cut and buff
If you allowed your clear to shrink, you should be ok. I have rushed these projects before, only to see grinding marks show up later. Then you'd need to sand and re-clear again.
This is just my procedure. You may find a better way. Good luck, and happy grinding!
PS. Try grinding in designs. I've done flames before with painted flames on top of that. It looked really cool!

Ed, thanks for tips and technique. I have only tried it once before and the result was complete delamination of the clear. I see my mistakes (not wearing gloves, cleaning with wax and grease after grinding) now. I can't wait to try another one.

The grim reaper is always a cool theme. That's the theme I would like to do on my tins when I get some $. Very awesome, talented work Ed.
