Questions for 2009 K9 Owners

I have a 2004 BDM Chopper DT but always liked the little extra rake of the K9. My bike runs great since I installed the Wire-Plus, but I'm thinking about trading it in (plus some $$$) for a new (i.e. unregistered) 2009 K9. In light of the demise of BDM, I have some concerns about the deal such as no warranty and an uncertain supply of (proprietary) parts. BDM Performance Products has risen from the ashes, but are they really going to manufacture new parts or just sell off the existing inventory? And for how long? I guess time will tell. Also the bike has been sitting on the showroom for well over a year. Anyway, I've searched this forum and got some answers, but here are a few for 2009 K9 owners:

Did you have to have any warranty work done?

Do you still have the original EHC?

Did you have any paint or chrome issues?

Do you have a supplier of normal-wear items like primary gaskets, derby gaskets, etc.

Any gas tank liner problems?

Any comments would be welcomed and I wouldn't be considering another Big Dog without the resources of this knowledgeable forum.

not an '09 owner but some of the questions are relatively generic.

normal wear items such as gaskets can be bought straight from Baker or S&S
tank liner can happen to anyone. there are kits out there where you can DIY or job it out.
if you buy a new dog, it's gonna have an EHC unless it's a K9 Lite, and eventually you will have trouble with it. (as of now, my '07 has yet to give me trouble knock on wood)

i'll leave the other questions up to the '09 owners.

GOOD LUCK with your purchase and post some pics.

Here's my answers (in blue):

Did you have to have any warranty work done? yes

Do you still have the original EHC? no, replaced under warranty along with my chrome speedo (which kept fogging up) w/i first 1,000 miles

Did you have any paint or chrome issues? no

Do you have a supplier of normal-wear items like primary gaskets, derby gaskets, etc. no, still going to my old Big Dog dealer where I bought the bike - same tech still there and does a great job

Any gas tank liner problems? no

If you need anything more specific, just send me a PM.

ps- I love my '09 K9!

Hey Fred my bike is not an 09, it's an 07, but it was a special deal of a reclaimed bike from a failed dealership and I was able to save like 7K on the deal by forfeiting the warranty. I am so glad I did that. I had a few minor issues but nothing that would have made a third party warranty worth buying. As for parts man, it's an S&S motor and Baker transmission both companies that are still in business. Typical of most owners' all I seem to do is remove perfectly good stock parts and replace them with after market off the shelf parts. There is nothing on these bikes that are unique and unreplaceable or repairable. GET YOU A NEW 09 if that is what you like.

Did you have to have any warranty work done? Nope paid for some small issues that were workmanship errors by sloppy techs.
Do you still have the original EHC?EHC still ok, but Jake can damn sure see you through a replacment to the wire plus (as you know).[/
Did you have any paint or chrome issues? Bike looks great and ask rubwhore you don't need Big Dog to paint a motorcycle.
Do you have a supplier of normal-wear items like primary gaskets, derby gaskets, etc. Those items are readliy available from many places.
Any gas tank liner problems? I can see a small amout of separation right under the cap where fuel flows in, but relining products and services are available.

Thanks for the input guys. Regarding gaskets, I thought (maybe incorrectly) that the K9 primary cover, with its unusual shape, requires a BDM gasket. Are you saying it is available from other manufacturers? That would be good to know.
