Question about the EHC connector.

I am in the process of doing a little maintenance on the bike, checking wires and connectors, using dielectric on any plugs and connectors I find. I have waterproofed the wires under the tank even though they are waterproof connectors.
I was wondering if I should disconnect the EHC and grease it. I have read about pins breaking on the EHC. I have read threads until I'm crosseyed about waterproofing. Should I unplug it to put dielectric grease on the plug or leave it alone? Any other advice on electric maintence?

Mine had allot of moisture in it when I took it apart but I ride in the rain all the time in South Fl....

YES jim..........I would highly recommend that you take a airhose,blow out all the old crusty junk out of your EHC Connector,and on the EHC itself.......Then clean it with all out with electrical contact cleaner,blow it out with air again........Repack connector with Di-Electric grease and your good to go:2thumbs:.........

I do this once a year on my bike as well,and I clean,tighten, and lube all the ground connections as well.............Good Luck bud..........

Disconnect the battery before you tamper with the EHC......

Thanks Diesel Dan, I guess I should start doing it now and clean it at least once a year. Less chance of breakage I guess.

Just take extra care plugging the EHC back in so you don't bend any of the pins . Shouldn't be a problem unless someone is careless.

It was standard procedure in production at the factory to pack the EHC with dielectric grease. We would also clean the connectors out and repack, every service.

Keep in mind that dielectric grease is an insulator so I would caution against coating the pins with it

Well that went pretty well.
Is there a chart somewhere that shows all the grounding points?
Don't see one in my downloaded service manual.

My service manual says to fill connector to the top of the pins with dielectric grease. It was pretty well filled when I disconnected it.

The more I read it seems that everything is grounded through the EHC and that ground, along with the battery is the only to maintane.

Yes, pack it with fresh dielectric grease and once conected again wipe the excess.
