Question about oil

I just installed a reverse kit on a Harley for a freind that I work with. We also did a complete oil change. When we did the oil change. We put the same oil in the engine, primary and the transmission. Can we do this with our Big Dogs? I wanted to call the factory but I thought I would ask you all first.:loony:

erldawg, read that post didn't see that any body was running just one oil. I"ll call the techs see what they have to say. Thanks

run gear oil in the tranny... not motor oil.. to thin.. I changed my HDs to gear oil in the tranny.. no matter what HD says.. look in the how to section its covered..

I run Revtech engine oil, primary oil and trans oil.

Amsoil makes an 85w90 severe gear oil that works great in the tranny. Quiets it down and has a better shear strength.

I was just wondering what Harley changed in their oil to allow it to be used in the transmission.

I talked to a HD master tech about this.. he said HD didnt want to have so many different types of oils.. & he didnt recomend running engine oil in the tranny.. I run 85-140 in all my bike trannys..

The subtle point was no one was running same oil in all three...

When I had the Harley I ran Screaming Eagle Syn in all three. Knowing what I know now I would refrain from running motor oil in tranny.

i have spent the better 1/2 of the past few hours reading all this stuff about lubricants....
1. To me it is apparent advertising truelly works.....
2. just a coupla years ago BAKER TRANSMISSION didnt recommend SPECTR0 ,they
recommended something else...
3.I just cant justify why a qt.of trans fluid would cost $20.....
4. Put the price as high as you can,they are $25-35,000 motorcycles,if they spent that
much on a bike we can surely justify $20 a bottle to protect there investment....
5.Every oilcompany and every oil salesman has their own pitch on why their stuff is
so much better than the competion
6.I was hoping KY JELLY would get involved in the lubrication wars........
