Question about gas caps

I know this may sound stupid but my 01 pitbull i just bought last week has two

gas caps...of course.. the question i had was are one of those a vented cap?

Because i started my bike for the second time since i bought it and it will run

for a second then die. so i went to see how much gas i had and i can not for

the life of me get the left cap off..as tho it was supposed to be vented but

wasn't and the pressure has the cap stuck...or is one of these caps just a

dummy cap and not come off at all?

The cap on the left should have left hand threads. :2thumbs:

Wow...never actually thought of turning it what is usually the wrong way.....lol my harley had right hand threads...lol i will have to try it when i get into town to my garage

It didn't work ...it will turn back and forth about 1/4 of an inch....I would hate to have to take channel locks to it...maybe I could use one of those rubber strap wrenches

Ye the left side is opposite threaded, just take your time. After you get the cap off put some vasoline on the threads and do not over tighten the caps. The left side is vented if my memory serves me right.

I had the same problem when i bought my 2002 Mastiff a couple yrs ago. The left side cap was on so tight i had to take a leather glove and wrap it around the cap. It doesn't help that the cap's are hard to grip either by being so short. I've looked for a set of new caps but custom gas caps are pretty spendy. I just don't tighten them much.
