Pushrod Adjustment and Idle

I just adjusted the pushrods on my chopper because it was "noisy" after my long trip. Now that I have followed the Pushrod adjustement thread and video I have a question. Would adjusting the pushrods affect the bikes idle post adjustment. I am wondering if it was the pushrod adjustment causing the bike to idle rough or whether its the shitty gas and probably empty tank. Thanks!

hmm, looks like a response in another thread by Raywood says "no matter how bad you adjust them, it will not affect idle". That means I am really out of gas or I could possible have my spark plug wires on incorrectly (wouldn't think that would be it but it could). Time to keep checking.....

I think there is some disparity on the adjustment. Some videos say 20 flats but s&s says 24 flats. I adjusted mine to 24 and it runs better.

I just play with mine till it sounds good, it takes a lot of time and effort but!!!!
Carb adjustment is pretty easy with the S&S carb. If you need help just yell

Different brands of pushrods have different amounts of threads per inch, so they require a different amout of turns/flats to adjust properly. If you have the directions you are ok, if not you will have to measure and count the threads. If you know the brand S&S has a nice little chart that has most major brands listed with their threads per inch. It helped me.

Above is right on the money............
Rule of thumb reference threads per inch: 24 tpi = 2 1/2 turns.
28 or 30 tpi = 3 turns.
32 or 34 tpi = 3 1/2 turns.
40 tpi = 4 turns.
You get the idea.
If you have the valves too tight, you can definitely get a rough idle.(valve is off the seat).
