my 05 Ridgeback has had a bad couple of weeks in the running dept. out of the blue it died while on a hard run, died as I was pulling into a buddies house. hung out for a few minutes etc, went to leave bike started but no headlight, rode home in the dark, bout a mile from driveway bike died and would not re-start, headlight bulb was blown, replaced. started up and ran. didnt ride it till next week, rode maybe 2 miles, died, restarted and brought home. hasnt started since. I have self diagnosed it to be the under seat " Brain Box". I'm new to this type of configuration and was just gonna change it out. cant find part anywhere. any suggestions? all advice would be appreciated. thanks.

Have you done a load test on the battery?
This is usually a great place to start your diagnosis.

Also, might want to keep the battery on a tender.

Agrees with Knotso. Mine is an 04 and I am really not sure the differences but I would also check the ground connections, wires broken. Check and see if the blinkers, horn, speedo or any thing else electrical is non functional at this point.
But like Knotso said check your battery. Looking back I believe my weak battery was the ultimate reason or at least part of the reason for my EHC to finally have to be replaced with the Wire plus system.

I am sure there will be others to chime in with more experience with the 05 as everyone on this forum wants to help keep these old dogs running.

:cheers:thanks for reply, battery is good or tests good, used alternate battery also, I have spent some time on this issue and of course I'm not a motorcycle mechanic but do have very small repair skills, do all my own work etc., have researched and spoke with local dealer, and other more skilled folks than myself and come to the point of replacing the under seat EHC unit, but I cant find the part anywhere and is there a led display that indicates this part being bad? I hate my dog being down. but with terrible weather in KY right now its not the worse.

Don't buy another EHC, just get the Wire Plus kit from Jake and never have to worry about your EHC again.

:flag::flag:is there any of these parts avail anywhere? I understand the advantages of eliminating the ehc but honestly I dont have the time to do a rewire- let alone the patients to do it right. tag on my part; Big Dog Motorcycles-171-000010-00 REV B. CARB EHC -01-0476-00 RB. s/n: 01903

Insert title here...
IF, in fact, your EHC is bad here's something to ponder...

The latest completed listing on ebay for the part you're looking for:

big dog ehc | eBay

So, as you can see, the WirePlus is potentially worth the time it would take. But whichever way to go make sure your EHC is really the problem or you'll have spend a boat load of cash for nothing!
