Purchasing a new to me Big Dog

You folks are fantastic! Avons are on the bike now and they look good, but 10 year old rubber makes me nervous. I am very fortunate to have a friend that is I guess what you call old school, been around custom bikes, built a few, and he has recommended to change out all fluids regardless of condition of bike. He is going to help me do all of this. I consider myself very fortunate in this respect. On another subject, the bike only comes with a single seat and my better half may, and I do mean may, want to ride with me after I get a little time on the bike. I don't like the suction cup seats, where does a person find a 2 up seat and a custom sissy bar? I do not under any circumstances want a seat that will rub on the back fender. Is that possible?

Welcome, your friend is right. I changed everything when I got my 02. Another thing you might want to check is the inside of the gas tank.

But have fun and good luck.

Unfortunately for me I have the worst luck with warranties, especially tires on my vehicles. I do appreciate the advise though. I'll have to admit I was leaning towards the Metzlers. Ok,stupid question, how do you shave them?

I've run both the Metzlers and the Avons on my k9. I never did have to shave anything off of my Metzlers. It was close but they didn't need any shaving. By the way I purchased 2 sets of Metzlers and the best mileage I got was 4600 miles on my second set. First set was gone after 4300 miles. Hope you have better luck with them. I can usually get 7000 out of my Avons.

One of the old ones.
Welcome from another Rick and another Kansan.
I have always run Avons and have had no issues whatsoever. Currently replacing my 2008 K9 with +70,000 miles--in other words, a stack of Avons.

Appreciate all the suggestions, I guess I'm going with Avons front and rear. I will also be replacing front and rear bearings. Please recommend size and brand. Also new battery, also size and brand recommendations? Am I wearing my welcome out yet?

Check out Curtis at http://www.wildsteedworx.com/, he is a supporting Vendor for the site, has everything you need and if you have questions just give him a call. Check out the website first tho, that should solve your parts problems.

Don't worry about wearing out your welcome...there are great people on the forum that are more than happy to answer all of your questions. Do some searching around in the old posts and you will find the answer to most any question you could ask.

I have a shinko front tire and will be getting a shinko for rear when it needs, good tire and price is real nice. Bearings I would contact Donna on site or ebay, they are cheap, battery...I have bought a few different kinds and for the price etc I use Deka(Make Harley batteries) and works just fine

Welcome from Indiana. I am trying my 1st set of Shinkos. So far I am quite pleased.
:stupid: Great tires and the extra width of the 300 (not necessary to shave tho very close) makes for an even better look, before I had them installed on my K9 I was able to do a side by Swiss comparison at daytona beach bike week when I still had the Avon’s on it next to @BWG56 07 mastiff and the difference was noticeable not only I’m width but also the cool factor of the tread design!:old2:
