Purchasing a new to me Big Dog

I'm new here and just wanted to introduce myself. I've been lurking around and reading the posts here for a few years. It looks like after wanting one of these bikes for more years than I care to count I've finally found the Big Dog I want to bite the bullet on. The bike is in excellent condition, very low mileage, 2007 model Buldog, original owner. Even though the tires look good, they are still 10 years old so I am going to replace them. So my first question is what brand would be recommended?

Welcome to the family! I love the 06/07 Bulldogs. I just replaced the original front tire on my 06 Pitbull and I keep a spare rear tire in the garage bc I learned the hard way if you need one fast you best have one at the house. I prefer Avon tires and that is the brand my bike came with when I bought it new. Congrats on the new dog!

Welcome aboard Rick :) Tire options are limited in the sizes that we need for our Dogs. Basically you have 3 brand options, Metzler, Avon or Shinko. I prefer the Shinkos, everyone has their own preference and I am sure you will get lots of input from the other members. I have been running Shinko tires for years on my bikes and have had good luck with them. They perform well in wet or dry, ride smooth, balance easy and wear almost as well as other higher priced tires. Congrats on the new Dog, there is lots of help here on the site if you have issues.

You folks are fantastic! Avons are on the bike now and they look good, but 10 year old rubber makes me nervous. I am very fortunate to have a friend that is I guess what you call old school, been around custom bikes, built a few, and he has recommended to change out all fluids regardless of condition of bike. He is going to help me do all of this. I consider myself very fortunate in this respect. On another subject, the bike only comes with a single seat and my better half may, and I do mean may, want to ride with me after I get a little time on the bike. I don't like the suction cup seats, where does a person find a 2 up seat and a custom sissy bar? I do not under any circumstances want a seat that will rub on the back fender. Is that possible?

Howdy, and welcome from Missouri.
Look up Bad Ass Seats. They have one that has a sticky on the bottom, instead of the suction cups.

just be aware that of the three tire choices, Metzeler is the widest at 318mm and is the most prone to interfering with the belt. the bike was designed around the Avon at 308mm, so you are almost 1/4" wider each side of center. this causes you to have to shave the edge of the new tire, which voids the warranty.
