So I have the dreaded 2005/2006 epa restricted motor issues, with the short rockers, weak springs and mis-fitted rocker boxes. My front cyl started getting REAL noisy about a day before I took it in for my 500 mile service and new exhaust. Now it just keeps getting worse to a point where I can really hear the ticking more than anything else now. Embarrassing to ride even. So the good news is that they will rebuild with the proper S&S aftermarket quality parts, and BDM will cover it under warranty.

I may be dogless for 3 weeks though. :(

Sucks to be without your ride but it sounds like you'll get it back in great shape. Dealer told me I need lifters. Ticks when it's cold. Looks Great, Sounds Like Shit. Know the feeling. Being out of warranty I will probbably do it myself.

Man, I feel for you. Similar situation with my 05 chopper. I just get the clutch worked out with the new bandit assembly and the top end starts with the noise. Been in the shop for a LONG time (2 months) and don't expect it to be done for another week or two. Getting new heads, rocker assemby (S&S), pistons and cylinders. Lucky I still have a couple of Harleys to ride, but really miss the puppy.

I know what you mean. I can't believe I'm so bummed about it. I've got two other bikes to ride, along with my 425hp Vette. Yet, it doesn't really come close to riding the chopper. :choppersmiley:

Man, its really gonna suck not having the Dog for the long weekend.

I held on to it for an extra week while the parts were on order, and finally took it in on Monday, expecting maybe a couple days to get the new parts on.

Well, after they got the heads off and inspected a little closer, along with a compression test, it appears the front cyl is really in bad shape. Its losing over 40% and using oil like a chain smoker. Its now sitting at the machine shop waiting for a shave down. Problem there is that I am in a rather long line to wait to get to mine. May be another 2 weeks. :bang:

The season up here is short enough as it is. This really sucks.

Pup in the Kennell

Crappy Deal Man, If its any consolation (and you have a good mech), it'll be better than new when it comes back. On my SECOND top end rebuild while still under warranty I went ahead and ported and polished the heads, bigger valves and heavy springs - It's great now and would have done it before but was waiting out the warranty. Try to visit it if possible while work is underway..

Yep, the works is going into this one at BDM's expense (valves, springs, rockers, boxes, piston/ring/head work, etc), and all I'm paying out of pocket is for a new 625 cam since everything is apart now anyway. Might as well size everything up for the cam now. BDM is actually ok with this, considering the situation. My tech has a good relationship with with them as well.

IT still sucks that this has to be done to a basically new motor though. Only 900 miles on it.

I'm just pissed that its going to be a perfect weather weekend here.

Best of luck in a quick return, I am going on 3 1/2 weeks just for my gas tank to be painted where it was peeling:angry: I knew it might take a while but damn could have had it done here in town in like a week, but the paint was still under warranty.

sucks about the down time bro:( mine was done last winter.....when they changed out my rockers to S&S and all S&S valve train and put on new heads also....I already had the
.640 springs in it....so I had my dealer put in the .600 cam
one of front guides were out of tolerance...
hope you get your scoot back soon..

Its even difficult just logging on here and reading about all you guys enjoying your rides (or even complaining about the little issues) this weekend.

I'm hearing maybe the end of this week for mine back, put probably following week. :( I definitely don't want to rush the Techs with their work (rather have it done right the first time), but I've only got about another 6 weeks of riding time left here.

I've had to lower myself to take the wife's ride out this weekend (my old VTX). Oh well, at least it still has two wheels and a V-Twin (albeit a much weaker one).

I guess the bright side is that it will be like having a brand new bike when I get mine back (wait a minute, it was brand new...).

3 WEEKS WTF!!! If the place were an automotive shop they would have the engine and transmission re-built, re-painted and a new interior. Why in hell does it take so long to get your scoots fixed .. makes no sense to me they are just bad (no make that shitty) business people. Our scoots are VERY VERY simple to do anything to -- should take a day at most. Add a few if machining is required but thats it.

Week 1: Bring bike in, complain about excessive top end noise, have tech take top end apart and inspect. Tech then spends time convincing BDM they had a shitty product in 05-06, and BDM then takes their time in sending the proper S&S parts back out for replacement.

Week 2: Parts arrive, bring bike back in for replacement of top end. Techs discover that this replacement doesn't fix whole problem. Motor still losing 40% compression. Heads sent to machine shop where they sit in line for about a week while all the Sturgis returnee motors are already in line ahead of you to be worked.

Week 3 (still waiting for this part to happen): Machined heads finally return from machine shop rebored to fit new rings, etc, and add a new cam for good measure. New parts get installed, tuning complete, and owner finally happy that pup runs like a big dog.
