Well, after working for the past month of so, NONSTOP, or at least it seems that way, I am getting some time off and getting ready to pull the tanks of my Mastiff. I've scoped it all out, got the "dash" panel off and it looks to be fairly easy, but so does hitting a golf ball 300 yrds when watching Tiger do it.!! Are there any hidden gremlins that might bite me in the ass, I should know about before I start taking this monster apart?? Any specialized tools I'm gonna need...and so on.??

Wish me luck..!!

I gotta fix this damn leak...and soon.

Tank is drained and ready for the procedure.!!

It's fairly simple hippy. There are the 4 bolts in the front of the tanks and the 2 in the center once you remove the dash. You should change out the grommets on the tank since you are there. Sometimes they get dry rotted and stiff. Other then that you'll have the tanks off in 15 minutes. Don't forget to remove the cross over hose in front wil make life easier to take tanks off.

Thank you so much.!! It looks easy, but you don't know my luck.!! I will commence to remove and try to repair.!!! Where can I get these replacement grommets???

Thanks again.........

Thanks

What CC said. I've taken my tanks off my bike 9 times in the last 2 months. Not Hard.
I do appreciate you guys supporting my confidence, or lack of it.!! I've got the left half off and it appears the leak is coming from around the rear mounting tab.!! I'm gonna sit a minute and think this out. Gotta find a good route to go with various sealers or take it to a specialty welding shop for repairs. There's a custom bike builder near Roanoke that might just be my saving grace.!!

Still have not gotten a response from the fine folks at BDM..!!!

Didn't really expect one anyway..!!

'04 model is kinda out of their hands and into we consumers.!!!

Oscar......After pulling your tank so many times, might I ask have you replaced your rubber mounting bushings and if so, where did you get them???

Hippy you can get them grommets from any HD dealer or cycle shop. Our tanks are standard Fat Bob tanks that have been stretched. You can even get a new set of tanks stretched for around $125. I have a dented left side if you need to borrow it just to ride. It doesn't leak.

I do thank you for the kind offer CC and hell I might take you up on that offer if BDM takes forever to get me my tank back to me. I had a different sort of problem with my swingarm a year or so ago, and it took nearly 3 months to get it back from BDM. I hope this tank problem doesnt' take that long. But I might buy a left half just to put on and ride while I'm waiting.!! Thanks for the tip.!! Does HD sell the stretched version of this tank??

Good deal Hippy! Glad to hear that BDM is going to take care of you. Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier but CC is right on the replacement grommits. The prices will vary from place to place but will be pretty close to each other.

Thanks CC..!! I did not realize these tanks could be purchased so cheap. I'm gonna go for it and use one of these, in primer, until Nick gets my other one fixed and painted.!!!

Thanks much..!!
