didnt put this together until today but about 2 weeks ago i took baffles out of radius pipes,friend got a new k9 running muthas and much nicer sounding then baffled radiuses so i must keep up with or fly by the joneses,,anyway last wek all of a sudden i walk out of local watering hole helping once again to spread the wealth with the single moms strugglin over here in baltimore and my battery aint got enough juice to spin the motor,i hot shot it cause of the emergency situation(single mom would have found another ride home) and off we went...another week goes by and pull my shit out of the garage and battery is completely dead,now i have noticed small puffs of smoke when i start the bike at first just thinkin it had something to do with removal of baffles and now as i investigate closer notice it is coming from under the battery box above or around the starter and dont smell like a fuel started puff of smoke it allmost smells electrical.......am i in store for a meltdown here men???has anyone went through this same issue at anytime of the life or death of your bike?????

Sounds like you need to check out why your battery wont batt.Only time i had smoke is when the original starter filled it self with oil.

Doesn't the starter have a breather vent that it could be venting?

Oil be getting into the starter like every other BDM does, and the starter contacts are burning that slight bit of oil at startup?

Sounds to me like you have a bad connection or weak battery putting alot of strain on your starter.

My battery connection has a habit of loosening after a period of time no matter how I tighten it. I usually carry a 10mm wrench just to be safe. If it's loose, I see smoke from under the seat and of course the bike is hard to start. Probably a good idea to check that first.

I check the battery connections before every ride. I keep mine on a battery tender so its pretty easy to check because the seats off and I keep the 10mm beside the battery tender.
