Protection Film Removal?

About a year ago, I had a local body shop cover my Dog's rear fender with Scotchgard™ Paint Protection Film. At first, I was pleased. Now I want it off.

In another thread, Gas Man suggested heat. Has anyone successfully removed the film? How did you go about doing so? Any warnings or tips?

Thanks, Grape

Heat I have heard... being carefull as well, it WILL pull up paint!!!

Maybe call the puppy farm, I know they pull it off all the time.

Seriously?

From the 3M FAQ:
Q. Will Scotchgard™ Paint Protection Film harm the painted surface if the film is removed?
A. If the film is properly applied to a fully cured painted vehicle, it can be removed, usually in one piece, without damaging paint surfaces beneath the film.

Maybe I'm better off taking it to the shop that installed it?

I take it off cars at our shop once in a while. Heat it up with a heat gun, peal it off, and wipe the glue off with some lacquer thinner (works best without damage) or glue remover.
