Been there, done that! Dropped a valve that broke mid-stem into the front cylinder. Had just purchased the bike used. No noise or smoke giving any indication I was having issues. Complete front head, cylinder, piston replacement. About a year later, excessive smoke during decelleration. Valve guide worn like a football. Replaced valve guides on that head. I've purchased the S&S rocker boxes. Looking for some S&S roller rockers. Financially strapped and waiting to find a deal. Procrastination can be monitarily motivated. Once I get the roller rockers, I'll also replace all 4 valves and guides. Until then, I'll just take my chances. Big Dog should have recalled this combination years ago. They know that! Folks like John Sachs that work on these bikes know that and a good many of us with '05/'06 Big Dogs with the TP (total piece-a-shit) rocker boxes know that.
you can use the Jim's rollers also, in case you can find a deal

thats my combo

pretty sure it was this one as it fits all big twins from 84+, sporsters from 86+ and some buells.

i bought new shafts but cant recall if they were Jim's. might of been S&S. i'd lose the TP shafts just for general principles.

S&S or Jim's whichever you can get. i know Jims had a problem with the wheels on their tappets years ago but they are known to be top notch. IMO

Damn! Those are higher than the S&S I see on EBay, but like you said, maybe someone will sell a set for a better price. Thanks for the post.

On the road to recovery...... Heads done, and set up for the engine combo.
Over sized valves...... 5 angle intake, full radius exhaust. :2thumbs:
All correct with the addition of S&S rocker boxes, and rocker arms.
Time to bore the "G" carb, and add a T-Jet...... NO booster, seems to make more power without one(consistent 3 hp more).

I wish I had more money.
I was reading the March/April edition of Urban Bagger. John Sach's got a mention on page 92 for his helping with an engine build. John Sach's racing heads were used in the build of a 103" Road Glide putting down 109 horses and 110 ft.-lbs. Way to go John!

Know how the poor bloke feels...TP ROCKERS and the rest of the shit they threw in my 117 caused such major damage, and a big hole in my pocket after 9000 miles. all sorted with S&S parts now and runs like a dream....

Tore mine down yesterday and heads are on the way to John now. I have just over 12000 on mine. noticed the off center wear on my rear exhaust valve. the pistons had alot of carbon on them.
