Problem with Tribal Controls?

Energy One
I put the tribal polished controls on my 06 K9 and now it seems that after riding for about 15 mins and heating up the shifter is sticking / freezing up. Are you supposed to adjust the shift linkage when installing these controls? Anyone heard of this problem?

I have the same set....should not be the new parts......The most common thing is the HEIM JOINTS seizing..disconnect the front and lift the shift lever up..if it stays in
up position...replace the joing...do the same with the front.....very common.

Hey thanks Split but the joints are free. I took the levers off twice now and cant figure it out. Its fine untill the bike heats up.

No adjustments. What mine was doing was when i would up shift it would stick in the up position and at times stick in the down position. I would have to put the shifter
back in place with my foot...This would not happen when I was stopped but only after I had rode for a while...and then it would not happen all the time..so I started lubing everything that moved and still nothing happened...Finally replaced the joints and it has been fine for about 6000 miles now with no problems...

If its not the joints maybe someone will chime in....

FREEDOM!!!
Just for piece of mind with the bike off remove the linkage completely. Move the forward control completely forward and back and feel if it is absolutely free. Now with your index finger and thumb hold the inner race of the heim joint and spin it around in all directions and feel if it is absolutely free. Repeat with the rear heim joint. Feel the shifter arm as well but it won't be free like the other parts. IF all is lubed and free reattach the linkage, and, if it still binds, lengthen (probably) or shorten the rod a little at a time until everything does not bind. The linkage is a turnbuckle so left and right hand threads are present. To adjust the linkage while still bolted to the bike just loosen both jam nuts and rotate shaft away from you or toward you to lengthen or shorten the distance. Good Luck!

Thanks 2004. The ball in the heim joint feels like it should be a little more free. I'm done playing games with this thing. I just ordered new stainless heim joints from Mcmaster-Carr. Thanks everyone for the info!!

Good call on McMaster stainless steel joints. I use them and polish them on the rouge wheel. Look like chrome and never needs maintenance again. I also lube them thoroughly with blue waterproof marine grease. I never change a part and hope I solved the problem. I have to troubleshoot until I find the cause then repair. Maybe I have OCD. Anyways, glad you found the culprit!!!

Once again thanks for the info. Funny, I'm the same way with the OCD!
