primary vent?

I have been chassing a primary leak, I replaced the primary cover and gasket and I have been reading on here that it could be it needs to be vented so I wrote JP Cycles and asked them about the venting and this is what they said.

( Venting the primary will NOT stop your leak. There is a built in vent in the system now. It actually breathes through the clutch push rod and through the Tranny. You need to take it apart and fix the cause)

Does this sound correct and if so is there a way I can check to see if its blocked and how could I clear it?

Just a thought.... you say you replaced the primary gasket? Did you by chance look at the surface of the primary cover? I had a brand new in the box cover that was not even close to being flat. There were lips around the the bolt hole locations. Once I flat filed it, I had no more leaks. Like I said, just a thought.

Also maybe when you tighten the outer primary cover, make sure you torque it to specs and use the correct tightening sequence pattern as stated in the service manual. Just my .02.

Yes I did check the cover and tightened it in sequence as well but it only leaks when the bike has been ridden for a while ,if you ride it for 15 or 20 minutes no leak and if I ride long enough it will leak but will leave a drip about the size of a half dollar then stop?

Are hou sure its the primary cover and not the starter or around the trans connection?

Something else to consider. You might want to check where your crankcase breather hose is setting. After putting a nice stainless steel filter on mine, I noticed that after long rides the primary gives me a nice single drip. Got to chasing it down with a mirror and flashlight and found its coming from the breather filter. It pushes out just a small amount of oil but after a while it pools and when the bike goes over on the stand it seeks the lowest spot. It appears as though you have a primary leak when in fact you don't. Just throwing it out there.

Do you have a bike stand/jack? If so, the next time you take it out, clean it prior to driving and when you return, place it on a stand so the leak will drip straight down and not find its way to the lowest point, the primary side. Also, are you positive it's primary fluid and not oil?

Im not positive of anything at this point,lol

But I just got home from work and loosened the bolts and then retightened them in sequence tightened the one on the bottom right, near the drain plug the tightest first , thats where it looks to be leaking from , headed out for ride shortly and wil do like you suggested and I have a magnified mirror I will slide under to see if I can pinpoint the leak , like I said it seems to be the pimary cover right where the bottom right bolt is near the plug. go figure

I got home after about 40 minutes of riding and there was a small drop of fluid by the plug so I wiped it clean and kept checking and there was no leak whatsoever , I really hope I got it this time but time will tell,lol
