Primary vent plug

Just installed a new starter on my 05 pitbull. Had oil in solenoid,
Was told to install a vent plug
high and to the rear on primary cover
It's a 10/32 gonna drill and tap
it. Do I have to pull the cover and
empty all the oil or can I simply
gently drill and tap it

Yes, true to install high and to rear of primary. If you can get a drill bit in there and tap it without pulling the cover do it. It's pretty tight but can be done. I just did it to my '07 K9 but I had the primary cover off already. This fix does work. Good luck.

I believe the factory vent has a screen in it that plugs up real easy. I made a new vent hole and put some tubing up and around to vent the primary. And just let the factory one with the plugged up screen be as it is. This worked for me and I no longer have a oil leak problem.

Im totally lost here. If oil is in your starter solenoid, a vent in the back of the primary case has nothing to do with it. A vent should already be there from BDM. If you look at the backside of the primary from the right side, you should see a 6mm size button looking thing. The point of contact between the starter and the back of the primary is where your problem is. One of my starters has been grooved so any primary oil that splashed up there will immediately drain back into the primary. Contact Shovelheadkicker on ebay or Curtis (Kapt America) here on the forum. They can direct you on how to correctly rectify yr situation.
