I know this has been covered over and over, but I'm getting my fluids changed, and want to know if it is ok to put synthetic oil in my Primary? And do you use synthetic in your primary? I'm going to put Amsoil in the Engine,Trans. Need your input. Thanks in advance guys

I always use HD primary fluid. The primary doesn't need any special lube, it's a low wear assembly. If there was no clutch in there, you could lube it with lemon pledge like a final drive chain. You do have to be careful about causing the clutch to slip, and for that reason I always use HD or Drag specialties primary fluid. Easy to find and never had a problem. Whatever you use, don't experiment. Find someone else who is using it and doesn't have issues. Clutch slip is really annoying.

I have the Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 in my primary, with no problems of clutch slippage.
Also use the Mobil 1 V-Twin in the engine and the Mobil 1 gear lube in the transmission.

I run Amzoil in my primary, same as Engine. Works great. No clutch slippage and actually find it easier to get neutral than when I was running non-synthetic oil prior.

Run 50/50 HD/syn
Run 100% Syn
Run 50/50 ATF/syn

Oil decisions are like saying; I'm going to vacation in Fla. Should I bring my own town's water? What happens if I move? I could not bring my old town water with me. Will I survive? That is how all this oil and weights and wherewithal, will wear you out.

Will syn slip? Yes. In a couple of hundred miles, will it slip? No. If I feel it slip, it's not ready, I should relax with the throttle apply or I forgo the syn. I beat my bike too much; each time out. This being said, if you don't beat bike, it won't slip. If it leaks out a seal, you can blame the syn, but I doubt it will leak.

You gotta show me on my bike where I use all sorts of blends of weight mixes, with and without the syn. I change the oil on average 2.7k. I have no leaks. The bike seems to have an above average compression for its mileage vs. same model with less mileage. My 220 vs. his 183 psi.

Gotta prove me wrong (we sit the on the same 'bike generic'). That says; with the evidence on video is every step you take, I counter your move. You need to prove someone is blowing smoke up someone's brain cells, I come with a whole different angle to that myth.

1. Oil myth (wear = compression)
2. More air myth (14 psi or bring another number for the N/A engine)
3. The elixir ((( :D ))) I need to keep explaining FI, but no one gets it [yet], times 3; why bother?

I have use HD in the primary for most of 5 years. I went back to the RevTec synthetic in the primary at the suggestion of a mechanic who said it would quite it down. Ran it all last year with no problems and no noticable reduction in noise. I am not big on the Amsoil because a guy who drag races bikes didn't recommend it. Mobile 1 in the engine and Redline in the tranny.

Just my .02 input.
I run H-D primary.Revtech 60 in the motor in the summer(20-50 in the winter) and Revtech 85-140 in the tranny. No leaks,no slips and I ride like I stole it.

I was thinking of throwing 60 in this summer, curious at what time do you consider summer in Texas? June-Aug? 90+ temps or wait till its 100? Do you notice bike runs significantly cooler? I can remember a few times last summer I got it out it ran a bit hot.

I think S&S recommends:

with 80°F (27°C) to Above 100°F (38°C) SAE 60
40°F (4°C) to 100°F (38°C) SAE 20W50

I think Redline as a 20W60 Synthetic, anyone ever try that?

I run 10W-60 in my engine - no complaints.

This oil is thinner than the 20W-50 when cold, but stays thicker when hot.

Best of both worlds.

When i had my HD i ran their 20-50 Synthetic in all three, trans, motor & primary.
No issues when i changed other than better oil pressure than from non synthetic

Pretty much just use the standard RevTech Primary fluid. Cheap, it does the job and just change it routinely. Less than $10 a quart.

Have tried ATF before and it did seem to work, but went back to regular RevTec though there was no issue with the ATF.

Tend to stay away from the syn in the primary to lessen chance of slippage, though many people have never had no problems with such.

Fot the oterh holes, I use Mobil 1 V-Twin in engine and then RevTec Tranny fluid in tranny. Change all routinely. Have had no issues with any of the mechanical parts (close to 30K).

Using Amsoil in engine and Spectro in primary.
Both not to buy in Holland, so Amsoil from PerformanceOils Ltd England and Spectro from Ebay.de:D
