Primary pulley oil leak

I need abit of help on this one. On my 06 K-9, I changed to Bakers Open Primary a few years back and had no problems until now. I turned the front pulley seal over for the open primary as required. After about 15,000 miles, the front seal started to leak. The funny thing is, it leaks after the bike has set for several days in the garage. I've replaced the seal 3 times, and it works ok until I get about 150 miles on it. I've noticed it seems to leak more when it has been sitting several days in a hot garage, almost like it's building up some kind of pressure in the engine. It might be a two or three drop, or a football sized leak. I've checked the pulley surface for marks, but it appears to be ok. I sure hope someone can help...

I had the same thing happen to me, but it wasn't the seal that was leaking. I pulled my front pulley and rotor. My stator bolts were leaking. I pulled them and cleaned them and the mount holes up good and added fresh loc-tite to the threads. This stopped my leak. Just saying...

I'll check this on mine , good advice. There are two of us that had this same problem just recently, ones fixed for the time being and mine getting the third seal this week. The first seal of mine had to much michelob ultra behind it and the sob jumped in sideways, oh we'll it was fun. Called baker and they recommended a viton seal which I have two of , so if 330 Dan gets carried away this time on installation at least we got spares. Hope this stops my leak.:2thumbs:

The best I can tell, it's the seal, but I'll check the stator bolts. As for the "leak", I have oil dripping out the bottom of the primary plate. Any where from a couple of drops to a large puddle.

Mine to , just depends on how much it wants to drip. :lol:

Either one is a double lipped viton seal and can be ordered from any bearing supply house. According to the Baker engineers these should solve our problem.

Changed my crank seal this weekend with the Viton seal and what a difference this seal is. It's a lot stronger material and grips the bushing tighter with more resistance so think this will be the remedy, time will tell.
