Primary or Clutch pack going bad

Hey guys just wanted to check in on the status. Played hooky on Friday and got a friend (work for HD) to come over for a six pack. We broke down the primary and realized I had put in the correct fluid so I avoided a major blunder. But we did have to loosed the chain to specs. I thought 5/8 seemed a bit too loose to us so we went with 3/8. What a different.. I stretched her out yesterday and all I can say is WOW :oldwtf:.

I wanted to say thanks to Paul and the rest of ya :old2: :cheers:. I'm not very good at this mechanical stuff but even though I might not be accurate you'all never blame a novice for it and help me so much. And it only cost me a six pack.. :whoop:

5/8-7/8" is spec in the manual. Just an FYI

keep this in mind if you ever discover your transmission fluid is low and you end up finding the missing fluid in the primary. if the chain is too tight, it will put stress on the transmission main shaft seal behind the clutch pack. also putting stress on the main shaft itself, and some were known to snap due to bad design.

Great advice Tom thank you. I believe that was what was causing the sound and performance problems. I'm glad I didn't ride after I heard the noise.

Q: What kind of oil should I use in my primary?
A: BAKER recommends Spectro Heavy Duty Primary Chaincase Fluid (85W) for all 1980-up stock clutches and mild performance aftermarket clutches. Although we recommend using Dexron III ATF with our King Kong Clutch due to the added friction modifiers found in the Automatic Transmission Fluid.
