Primary O ring leak

Well, as you may know I recently rebuilt the trans with success. I now have an inner primary leak again. THis leak is what originally led to me finding the "play" in the input shaft. Baker said I could get an O ring from Harley #11147. This O ring fits between the engine and the inner primary cover. WHen I rebuilt the primary and trans I replaced this gasket with a new one and it's still leaking. Everything torqued up right in the coorect pattern. Took it all apart last night and couldn't find a kink or a bad spot on the ring. Gonna try a small bead of high temp rtv this time with the O ring.

This is what I tried to fix 9 times, and ended up saying screw it and went to a open primary!

what's the deal with this, an engineering problem? I did everything right and have always fought this battle but it's worse now. I may have to do the same as you. Thanks

I had my mechanic fix it numerous times, Strokers in Dallas fix it three times, and I know a couple of times I had to fix it in Sturgis. It usually started leaking when ever I would really romp on it hard 1 st, 2nd and 3rd gear. really calling for all the dogs power.

May have disturbed the location of the trans during the rebuild slighty...Try to loosen up the trans bolts about 1/2 way. Then install the o-rings and tighten down the inner/outter primary in sequence to the proper torque. After that tighten down the trans in sequence with the correct shims. Unless you have something warped or over torqued this should seal it. No need for RTV with the o-rings.
