Primary leaking

I noticed a small bit of oil leaking from the bottom of the primary inspection plate cover last week. I tightened it up a bit and noticed just now it's still leaking a bit. Is there a gasket that I need to replace?

There is a gasket in there but mine still leaks a bit even with a new gasket and silicone like the manual says to install.

That sucks, but be careful with the silicone! I hate using silicone with and “O” Ring!!:2thumbs:

Thanks guys :2thumbs:

I haven't done shit with silicone. What kind do I need? Do I wipe the old silicone off and put new silicone on?

BBChopper- I'm probably not seeing the whole picture. How/why do I need to be careful with silicone? :D

BBChopper, I dont have an o ring on the inspection cover. the actual outer primary cover has an o ring. is that what you are talking about.

Irish, technically you should use a new gasket with a little silicone around the edge of the flange that the gasket and cover sits/bolts to.

Both of mine have an o ring type gasket. Be careful putting it with the silicone. The silicone extract (left over) falls into the case ( I was pissed when I found all that shit haging in my primarry). Good “o” ring gaskets are the best!! Lubed with some silicone lube or light oil. They work!!! Or replace them!!:2thumbs:

thats weird that they would go away from o rings on newer models. I would rather have a good o ring seal than the flat plate cover that I have.

Throw away those orings and sponge for the inspection cover and replace it with one gasket.Thats what my previous dealer did cuz of my complaining oil leaks. Now no more leaks.

EASY To do if you have some thick gasket material make your own.Mine had some chrome peeling on the inside so the oring would not seal in the groove properly.Nelson has the store bought ones.Get them by the dozen.

yeah.. bdm went to gaskets cause their o-rings sucked unless you use silicone. However, at least the o-rings could be re-used.

Any clear or gray rtv silicone from your local auto store will work.
